Unleash the potential of your digital presence

The tech side of website development for startups is often fluid and filled with uncertainties. What tech stack should you use? Which components might be overkill now but essential for future scalability? How do you balance fast feature development with ensuring your codebase remains maintainable and high-quality?

At Webelogy, we’ve built our processes to adapt to these challenges, evolving with the needs of each project. We focus on building scalable, efficient websites that grow with your business, from choosing the right technology stack to maintaining a balance between rapid development and long-term sustainability.

Start Shaping the Process

What we have at the start:

  • A small team of developers — Less than a dozen, including in-house staff and contractors working asynchronously.
  • A blank slate project — No code had been written yet, and the requirements were still forming, but we knew they would soon take shape.
  • Tech needs — A clear requirement for a backend to communicate with various client platforms, including mobile.
  • Web frontend — Initially, we thought simple static pages would suffice, but quickly realized this wasn’t enough.

We began with a straightforward approach: using GitHub for code management and a pull request (PR)-based workflow. Our goal was to ensure tickets were small enough to be delivered within 1-3 days. This involved a lot of story slicing, which helped maintain momentum and made progress more visible, motivating the team to push tickets to the "Done" column. This iterative process allowed us to stay agile and responsive as the project evolved.

Our Simple Roadmap

In today’s world, the variety of web development frameworks is vast. After evaluating several options, we decided to proceed with a framework that aligned with our past experiences and future scalability needs. Much like the importance of state management in mobile development, selecting the right architecture and tools for web development can significantly impact both the project’s efficiency and longevity.

How We Embraced Terraform?

In our website development journey, we recognized the need for a robust backend that included both a database and object/file storage. Additionally, we understood that implementing DNS was essential for our services to effectively engage with the broader digital landscape.

Our decision to use a specific cloud provider stemmed from our team’s existing expertise. Since we were already leveraging AWS for other projects, it made sense to continue with it. While it’s certainly possible to manage everything through the AWS console, over time, we found it can become an unwieldy "big ball of mud," with complexities that make it difficult to navigate and understand the reasoning behind certain configurations.

When selecting tools and partners, our approach is to prioritize those that show the most promise based on their features, supported languages, and, in the case of providers, competitive pricing.
